The city is asking health-care students who are home for the holidays to consider coming back for good one day.
Now in its 13th year, the Home for the Holidays Health-care Student Reception is a chance for student to see what Thunder Bay has to offer them in terms of career choices once they're done school.
Coordinator Cheryl Armstrong said from research labs to the hospital there are plenty of opportunities for students in the city. The reception, which includes a trade show, lets them see firsthand what's right here in their hometown.
"So the students can sort of be reminded and network," she said.
Third year University of British Columbia medical student Adrienne McKercher was one of around 50 students who went to the event at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery. While she's not sure where she'll end up, McKercher said the event is a big help as she decides where to do her residency.
"It's nice to come back home and make connections," she said.
McKercher said she's never heard from her classmates of other cities hosting similar events.
