A local charity received some welcome news hours before Christmas Day.
The Salvation Army announced on Christmas Eve that they were able to raise $170,984 from their annual Christmas Kettle campaign to eclipse their target of $170,000, which was $5,000 less than their 2012 total.
The campaign operated at a shortfall for much of the month of December, but was able to overcome the deficit and still meet their goal.
The donations provide a significant source of funding to initiatives such as the mobile feeding program, food for local food banks as well as other programs.
The campaign relied on volunteers manning the kettles at various locations throughout the city to meet the target, and the organization is still accepting donations.
