A man charged with murder will have his next court date in the New Year.

The 18-year-old suspect, who was 17 at the time of the victim’s death, was scheduled to appear in court Friday morning but was remanded until Jan. 9. He has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan.

Hogan, 30, was killed following an incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning of July 16.

Thunder Bay Police said Hogan was the victim of a violent assault.

Through an extensive investigation, Thunder Bay police arrested the man, who has been in custody on unrelated charges.

He was making an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice last week when was arrested on the murder charge.

Deputy chief Andy Hay said forensic evidence, including DNA, played a significant role in the investigation.

The suspect cannot be identified since he was a youth at the time of the incident.
