Police have charged the driver of an SUV that slid into a city bus Monday morning.
Officials with Thunder Bay Police Service say the Thunder Bay Transit bus was travelling east on Central Avenue when it was side-swiped by a westbound sports utility vehicle that slid out of control.
“It appears the SUV was going a little faster than what road conditions allowed and there was a side-swipe type of collision with the bus,” said Thunder Bay Police Service traffic Sgt. Glenn Porter.
“There was only one minor injury, a male had to be taken to hospital for observations.”
The driver of the SUV has been charged with careless driving.
The self-reported collision centre at the Thunder Bay Police station on Balmoral Street has been busy throughout the month of December.
Porter said drivers have to be cautious of road conditions, especially when temperatures drop to the point where road salt becomes ineffective.
“Icy weather means icy roads. There is about 970 kilometres of icy roads in the city of Thunder Bay right now,” Porter said.
“We just have to remind all drivers to slow down. It’s your responsibility to drive slowly enough to make sure you have control of your vehicle at all times.”
