The Shelter House's Street Outreach plan shifted into high gear this past weekend.
The program helps the city's most vulnerable survive the winter cold.
The four-month SOS pilot project dispatches a van with seasoned staff to transport people between services and supply them with winter clothing, condoms, water, coffee and pipe kits.
SOS Project co-ordinator Shelby Henderson says in the three days since the program began, it has successfully transferred 16 people between facilities and provided services to people sleeping in outdoor encampments on five occasions.
The SOS program is the Shelter House's contribution to the city's cold weather plan for the homeless.
