Out with the cold, in with the snow

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning in most of the northwest region as a weather system heads into the area Friday.

Environment Canada spokesman Geoff Coulson says we could see between 20 and 25 centimetres in Thunder Bay.

Coulson said the snow may begin to fall sometime Friday afternoon and continue into the nighttime and into Saturday.

While the snowfall is bringing milder temperatures with it, including a high of -9C for Friday, the deep freeze won’t be gone for too long.

Temperatures are expected to drop, with a nighttime low of -30C expected for Sunday.

“Unfortunately in the wake of this clipper, as it moves through later in the day Saturday, it is going to usher back in the cold air mass behind it,” Coulson said during an interview with CKPR Radio Friday.”

Sunday’s high of -19C is much colder than the seasonal average of -10C.
