A man charged with the murder of a Thunder Bay woman will appear in court next week.
The 18-year-old suspect, who was 17 at the time of the victim’s death, was scheduled to appear in bail court Thursday morning and was remanded until Jan. 16 when he will appear in youth court.
Despite the suspect’s current age, he cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was a minor at the time of the alleged incident.
The man has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan.
Hogan, 30, was killed following an incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning of July 16.
Thunder Bay Police said Hogan was the victim of a violent assault.
Through an extensive investigation, Thunder Bay Police Service investigators arrested the man, who has been in custody on unrelated charges.
He was making an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice when was arrested on the murder charge.
Deputy chief Andy Hay said forensic evidence, including DNA, played a significant role in the investigation.
