Board officials announced Tuesday night that Cathi Siemieniuk will retire on Aug. 31 from the position she’s held since July 2009.
Siemieniuk has worked for the board since 1978, working her way from the classroom to the boardroom.

“It is with mixed feelings that the board accepts the resignation of director Siemieniuk,” board chairwoman Deborah Massareo said in a release.

“Under her leadership, Lakehead Public Schools has accomplished numerous student success focused on impressive initiatives. We are thankful for her dedication to our students and staff and at the same time, we wish her well on her very well-deserve retirement.”

During her tenure Siemieniuk oversaw the opening of Superior Collegiate and Vocational Institute, a three-classroom addition at Woodcrest Public School and the implementation of full-day kindergarten.

“As many directors before me have stated, the strength of our organization lies within our staff and our board,” Siemieniuk said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our staff and the trustees for their professionalism, support and their dedication to the success of all students.”
