Council will be presented with the city's new proposed solid waste strategy Monday night.

Looking to meet environmental, financial and sustainability needs over the next 20 years, the two-phase plan would see everything from an enhanced recycling program to a clear garbage bag policy put in place.

Councillors will also hear why a proposed BMX park is no longer on the table. Originally presented in 2011, city administration say the man who proposed the new park is no longer involved and riders are happy with the existing park at Jumbo Gardens.

Also a tunnel under the expressway that was causing concern from some residents will not be recommended for closure. The tunnel, near Hinton Avenue, and the trail have seen better lighting and bush around them cleared over the past few years as people in the area said the tunnel and trail were a security concern. City staff say closing the tunnel would add a five kilometre detour to anyone using the trail.

Administration recommended it not council. Maybe don't jump to conclusions, as council is only receiving the report now.

Thunder Bay is one of the last cities where we have weekly garbage pick up and a bag limit greater than one. In Toronto, where garbage pick up is private, they're only allowed one garbage bag every two weeks!

You mean City Council wants transparency from us ? That's rich !

All joking aside , I think administration wants to clarify the rules for garbage bags . I smell a 1 bag limit coming with a hefty surcharge for anything over 1 bag . Gotta fund the Events Center and Art gallery somehow .

Well then move to Toronto. I live here and many from Toronto moved here, because we don't want to live "like" Toronto. The best thing about living here, "it's not" Toronto. City Hall and friends, want us to be like Toronto and Winnipeg for "somebody's" reason.

Are you equating recycling to a "Toronto" thing?

Were not Toronto so why change anything leave it alone. I'll just pile up the bags till all my black bags are gone if this comes into play.

The Crows/Ravens should like the clear garbage bag policy; their dining will become much more efficient.

How about they start recycling a lot more than 1and 2 plastic. Most placed you can recycle all of them. Let's look at large city provided containers as well. With out weight restriction, the kind the truck picks up.

City council didn't make these recommendations. Administration and people who attended the public meetings did.

Here in Toronto unlimited recycle is picked up weekly. garbage is bi-weekly and you must use your mandatory city issued garbage bin(3 sizes depending on what you bought). excess garbage can be put into garbage bags, no limit, at $3.10 per bag. (purchase sticky bag tags to put on each bag)
