Council will be presented with the city's new proposed solid waste strategy Monday night.

Looking to meet environmental, financial and sustainability needs over the next 20 years, the two-phase plan would see everything from an enhanced recycling program to a clear garbage bag policy put in place.

Councillors will also hear why a proposed BMX park is no longer on the table. Originally presented in 2011, city administration say the man who proposed the new park is no longer involved and riders are happy with the existing park at Jumbo Gardens.

Also a tunnel under the expressway that was causing concern from some residents will not be recommended for closure. The tunnel, near Hinton Avenue, and the trail have seen better lighting and bush around them cleared over the past few years as people in the area said the tunnel and trail were a security concern. City staff say closing the tunnel would add a five kilometre detour to anyone using the trail.
