Andy Wolff is the first candidate to declare his intentions to run for the Current River council position.

Wolff, who lost handily to Andrew Foulds in the 2010 municipal election, said he wants to deliver more openness and inclusive leadership to the citizens of Thunder Bay.

Foulds, the NDP’s nominee in Thunder Bay-Superior North, isn’t expected to make a decision whether to seek the seat again until after the expected spring provincial election.

Meanwhile Paul Pugh became the first candidate to throw his hat into the ring in McKellar Ward, looking to repeat his 2010 win.

A total of 14 candidates have filed in the ward an at-large races.

In McIntyre, Logan Ollivier remains the lone candidate to have filed his papers. Linda Rydholm is seeking to retain her Neebing Ward seat.

In Northwood, Shelby Ch’ng and David Polhill have filed, while in Red River, Brian McKinnon is being challenged by newcomer David George Noonan.

John Radl filed late last week to take on incumbent Joe Virdiramo in Westfort.

In the at-large race, Diane Armstrong, Andrew Brigham, Kimberly Coreau and Aldo Ruberto have put their names forward.

Incumbent Keith Hobbs and one-time candidate Douglas David MacKay are in the running for the mayoralty.

Mr. Wolf. What is your position on the events centre? Are you for it? Against it? If you are for it, what is your position on its location?

awwolff says:
My position on the events centre is that the location and development should be decided by plebiscite. I'm not for it at this time, until we can get our financial house in order and address the issues we face with our present facilities and infrastructure.

Most typical family pets should be able to do better for McKellar ward than Pugh has done.

Even my dog can raise his paw and speak when commanded by our household administration.

Pugh is definetly not doing much for McKellar, I don't even think he held a ward meeting during the flood..

Hopefully someone gets him out of that seat..

JAR says:
Actually Pugh held 2 of them as well as came around the flooded area a few times. Just because you are unaware of it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Pugh didn't hold them I don't even think he made remarks during them if I recall correctly, I attended them and they weren't really productive to say the least.

At least he puts his real name on a ballot and does something except baby whine and go waaah for and hours per diem...

Even a dog could get more votes than you would.

Vote them all out.
Remember the east end flooding, marina fiasco, Regen free loans, horizon wind farm debacle, water bill increases, sister city luxury trips, police service board mismanagement, dssab palace build, bike lane boondoggle, million dollar marina art sticks AND all the other mismanaged city services , free charity cash give aways and, pothole filled roads when you vote Thunder Bay

We pay the highest municipal taxes for the least services in Ontario and the current group does nothing to curb this growing issue.

Anyone who says Paul Pugh hasn't done much for McKellar Ward has either not met Paul Pugh, or doesn't live in this ward.

Ward councillors can hold a ward meeting every 6 months. He held one in March 2012, and one in October 2012. The October 2012 meeting was specifically to deal with the flood.

mcnews says:
@pylon Pugh holds a Ward meeting every month or two much like every other Ward Councillor does. Typical TBnewswatch comment from someone who knows nothing about what actually happens in the city. Maybe you should attend a meeting?

musicferret says:
I will vote for anyone who understands the difference between needs and wants: i.e. someone who understands that we have a 106 million things in this city that are more important than an events centre and that NO, an events centre will not suddenly make us a mystical destination for tourists and conference.

NEEDS vs. WANTS people. Vote out the idiots who don't get it.

hope Wolff wins.. Foulds doesn't deserve another term. When approached by current river residents, Foulds always says I don't have time to talk, email me. He deserves to be ousted. At least Wolff makes time to stop and talk to people.

Will be happy to see John Radl replace joe who continues to bend to police chief and spends inordinate amount of time pussy footing in chambers out out out

bttnk says:
I'm not sure of Wolff is the answer, but someone desperately needs to replace Councilor Foulds. I can't recall a councilor who is more unprepared to deal with the issues facing this city and takes a more cavalier attitude to pressing issues. We need business minds serving this city, not school teachers.
