Three men are in custody and police have recovered a firearm and ammunition from an Academy Drive apartment.

Thunder Bay Police Service spokeswoman Julie Tilbury in a release said officers responded to reports of a man being chased by three other men in the Ravenwood Avenue area. It was thought one of the men might be in possession of a firearm.

Just before 1 p.m., about eight minutes after receiving the call, police located one suspect behind a Trillium Way residence. The male was taken into custody, but upon arrival was found to be in medical distress and was taken by ambulance to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Officers continued their search with the assistance of the K9 unit and at 2:26 p.m. arrested two more suspects at the Academy drive location.

Ontario’s special investigation unit has invoked its mandate to investigate the circumstances surrounding the male in medical distress.
Police have not identified any of the suspects.
