A water main break on South Court Street has left 22 homes without water.

The break was reported around 7 a.m. Thursday on Court Street between John Street and Cornwall Avenue; water flooded down to Water Street, where a portion of that roadway was closed until around 10 a.m.

"We've since plowed it and sanded it and Water Street is re-opened and we're working on repairing the break," said Gerald Luty, supervisor for sewer and water north with the City of Thunder Bay.

Luty said the repairs could take well into the evening but he couldn't put a firm time on when the break would be fixed.

"There are so many different factors of utilities in the way and the amount of frost and the type of break it is," he said.

Story continues after video ...

Water main breaks have become an almost daily occurrence across the city.

Luty told tbnewswatch.com on Tuesday that crews have been responding to an average of one or two breaks per day over the past few weeks.

There has been more activity than usual during the last decade, but Luty said it's similar to the freezing and breaks the city experienced 40 years ago.

Rather than just insulting us (those against the events centre) and making fun of our points, heres your chance to look smart: debate us on the infrastructure point.

We say this is the type of thing that will continue to happen due to infrastructure deficit and that it gets more expensive the longer you leave it. We say that we already pay the highest taxes in the province and that we are at a breaking point. We say that infrastructure should be made a priority as set out in the mandate for the municipal government, rather than a fun events centre that might be nice to have. We say there are bed bug infestations, giant areas of the city becoming a veritable ghetto and so many other major issues that MUST be dealt with before we put a penny into a possible events centre.

So, heres your chance. Tell us how we are wrong using cogent arguments. Go ahead. We're listening.

Ahh always looking for someone else to take care of you huh?

Buy your own snowblower! buy your own "Welfare Dome" too.

Always counting on someone else to provide for you huh?

First you want everyone to pay for your entertainment, now you want someone else to clear your snow?

tsk tsk slopitch.. It's time to look after yourself now.

But isn't this the socialist paradise, SD? Where one and all work together...clearing snow collectively so we can all go to the welfare dome to watch our circuses? From each according to his abilities - and to each according to his needs?
My neighbour's recently retired...and just got a new snowblower for Xmas. He's out there at the merest HINT of snow - firing up his new toy any old time....when other guys like me have go to work.
(where I sit around, collect my gajillion dollars and my gold-plated pension, right?)

I'm not saying it was because of the events centre. I wish people would stop calling it that. It's a hockey rink!
The water main break was totally caused by the proposed hockey rink.

fastball says:
It's a WELFARE hockey rink for lefty socialist libs, who will skate around on skate blades made from the gold fillings from the teeth of the taxpayers while the city slowly sinks into financial and infrastructure hell.
That oughta cover most of it.

Lets get it straight, its been officially coined as the new "welfare dome"!

You're learning though. I'm not proud of you yet but at least you're getting it.

Now if you threw in the word "communist" I'd feel a wee bit better about you.

I did laugh at the comment though:)
