Despite parking concerns, city council gave the green light to a bingo hall and nightclub Monday night.
The former Roxy's will be converted to a new home for Thunder Bay Community Bingo, with a 230 square foot addition for a night club where the existing patio is. But with 67 parking spaces, businesses in the area were concerned.
Java Hut's Joe Skehar said he had to have 30 spaces for his 50-person occupancy business when it opened in 1995. He had to lease the spaces in order to comply. He said during the day existing businesses make it hard enough to find space.
"I don’t know where my customers would park,” he said.
George Badani of nearby Badani Motors said he welcomes the new business to the area but more information needs to come forward.
Coun. Rebecca Johnson wanted council to delay the decision until the developer and nearby businesses met.
"That’s a very busy area and its going to get busier,” she said.
While council turned down that motion and approved the plan, businesses are going to meet this week or next to discuss the parking issues.
