One person was sent to the hospital following a north-side house fire Friday morning.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at 707 John Street. Fire Rescue Chief Larry Turner said the fire was mostly contained in the basement of one of the townhomes.

“It is under investigation at this time, we’re still not sure of the cause,” Turner said during a brief interview with CKPR Radio at the scene. “There was one lone female occupant who was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries at this time.”

She was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre as firefighters continued their efforts to extinguish the blaze. He added that neighbours were also evacuated, but for precautionary reasons.

About two dozen firefighters were working on containing the blaze.
