City police are advising area motorists to avoid the intersection of Memorial Avenue at the Harbour Expressway due to flooding.

In a news release issued to media just before 5 p.m., officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say the flooding is due to the melting snow in the area.

City crews at the scene were diverting the water and fixing the issue. The lights at the intersection have also been affected and are flashing red in all directions.

While police are at the scene helping direct traffic, the city force is still advising people to find alternate routes to avoid this area until the water has been cleared and the traffic lights repaired.

Police are also reminding motorists that the melting snow on the roadway is causing large puddles. it is considered careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act to splash pedestrians on nearby sidewalks.
