Impaired driving , an illegal turn and crashing into a police cruiser led to the eventual discovery of a local man's small stash of cocaine Saturday.

OPP officers became suspicious of the 31-year-old driver after he collided with the cruiser at the corner of Arthur Street and Highway 61 just before 3 a.m.

Police say the cruiser was heading north through a green light when a man driving a truck made an illegal left turn and collided with the OPP vehicle.

The driver pulled into the parking lot of an Arthur Street business and the officer observed signs of impairment as well as an odour of alcohol.

A search of the vehicle also yielded a small quantity of cocaine.

Neither the officer nor the driver and a woman passenger in the truck reported any injuries, though both vehicles are described to have sustained moderate damage.

The man has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failure to provide a breath sample, failing to comply with a recognizance and drug possession.

He was taken into custody for a video court appearance.
