City police officer involved in crash charged for running red light

A city police officer involved in a crash with a cruiser has been charged for running a red light. Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed Wednesday that an investigation into the crash had wrapped up.

A city police officer involved in a crash with a cruiser has been charged for running a red light.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed Wednesday that an investigation into the crash had wrapped up. The collision, between the city police cruiser and a sedan,  took place at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 21, at the corner of Victoria Avenue and Waterloo Street.

While the cruiser did have its emergency lights and sirens on, an investigation revealed that the driver did not come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.

The woman driving the sedan and the uniformed police constable both sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision .

The intersection was closed for nearly three hours during the investigation.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials did not reveal the identity of the officer charged.
