Power down

By tbnewswatch.com

Thousands of Thunder Bay Hydro customers were without power Wednesday afternoon. At one point, as many as 3,800 customers were left without service.

Hydro officials were unsure what caused the outage but said the problem was underground.

It affected most of Northwood and parts of Westfort. Sherbrooke Elementary School, St. Francis and St. Vincent schools were all affected, although power was only out for up to 45 minutes.

The outage was fixed quickly for most Hydro customers. But some areas were without power for extended periods of time, including complete blocks of Simon Fraser Drive, North James Street and West Churchill.

I live in Northwood and that's the reason I have a backup generator. Which I use quite regularly....the clock on my vcr hasn't been set since the late 90's!

I went through the Golf Links and James street lights when the power was out. It was hard to tell that the lights were powered off from a distance. I also saw a police officer drive through the lights to the station and then turn around a few blocks down because there was an accident - it was complete chaos at the intersection but the officer did not stop to direct traffic just kept on his way until there was an accident. I could not believe that he just drove the intersection like that without stopping to direct traffic - it's your duty sir to protect us - yes your job to make sure we are safe. I really wanted to tap on his window and ask him why he is not directing traffic.

Can't tell if lights are working....guess I will just maintain speed directly through this intersection.

Sometimes people have to think for and look after themselves, it's not rocket science, stop and proceed as if it was a 4 way stop.

A 4-way stop intersection that is 5 lanes wide on three of the streets and 4 lanes on the other - you are right it is not rocket science but it is definitely more dangerous then a typical 4-way stop intersection.

The lack of power to traffic lights caused two accidents.

No, poor drivers caused two accidents. If the lights stop working, it turns into a 4 way stop, how hard is that to navigate?

NO! 2 typical Thunder Bay drivers that have no clue how to use a 4 way stop are the once that caused the accident! You clearly fit in to this category TSP!
