City man arrested following armed robbery investigation

City police have charged a 29-year-old man in conjunction with a pair of armed robberies last week at local convenience stores.

City police have charged a 29-year-old man in conjunction with a pair of armed robberies last week at local convenience stores.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service on Friday said they arrested 29-year-old Blake Nicholas Kowalchuk after spotting him on Franklin and Arthur streets at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday night.

Known to police to be on a court-imposed curfew and to have outstanding warrants, he was taken into custody, where has was charged in conjunction with the robberies.

The suspect faces two counts of robbery, two counts of utter threats, three counts of breach of probation and two counts of breach of recognizance.

Kowalchuk made his initial court appearance on Thursday and was remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail.
