A man involved in a car crash earlier this month died while in the hospital Sunday.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service confirmed Monday that Gary Soderholm, 51, of Thunder Bay, died while at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Soderholm remained at the hospital in critical condition following an April 3, multi-vehicle crash on Golf Links Road south of the Harbour Expressway.

Investigators say Soderholm appeared to suffer a medical event that caused him to lose control of his sedan as he travelled east on the Harbour Expressway.

Soderholm’s vehicle veered right and struck three southbound  vehicles at the intersection near Golf Links Road.

Two other drivers, a man and a woman, suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. They were taken to the hospital, but released soon after.

Police say investigators found no evidence of excessive speed.

Police also say they found no pre-existing condition that would have caused Soderholm's driving privileges to be suspended before the crash.

The investigation is expected to conclude following the results of a post-mortem.
