The city’s police budget is expected to take a small dip into the red after the first quarter.
The Thunder Bay Police Service revealed its estimated first quarter variance at the regular scheduled police service board meeting Tuesday morning.
The variance report shows that the city’s force is expected to be about one per cent over budget, or about $322,000.
Software updates and facility costs are expected to ring are the expected culprits for the first quarter variance.
But the budget could even out. Police chief JP Levesque told CKPR Radio Monday that while they did see some overage in labour costs, it could even out with the possible savings expected from the new courthouse.
“It’s very time consuming to prepare a full court docket with paper,” the chief said, adding that the new courthouse will allow for many of the court briefs to be done electronically.
“So if we can put (the documents together) electronically and give it to the Crown attorneys it will be far more efficient and should save us some time.”
