THUNDER BAY -- There seems to be a mismatch when it comes to expectations for employers and hopeful employees in the region.

That's according to a new study commissioned by the North Superior Workforce Planning Board. About 28 natural resources companies and eight other businesses identified a number of technical and soft skills, such as a good attitude or enthusiasm, lacking in potential employees.

"There didn't seem to be a perfect match for them when they were looking for work or in their search for an employee," board executive director Madge Richardson said.

While the issue is complex and the board is using the report to get everyone from industry to schools together to find solutions, Richardson said part of the issue might be training programs aren't keeping up with labour demands.

From computer literacy to mathematics, demands are constantly changing.

"It's going to take a concerted and collaborative effort," she said. "I think the expectations are growing."

The report will also help job-seekers learn a little bit more about what employers are looking for. That report can be found here
