An early morning fire nearly gutted a north-side home.
Witnesses spotted smoke and flames coming from the Merrill Street home at about 3 a.m. Monday.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly after arriving on scene, but say there was extensive damage in the home’s basement, which extended through to a main floor bathroom and bedroom.
There is also noticeable fire damage around the front door of the home.
All occupants of the home escaped without injury.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue is investigating to try and determine a cause.
