Police issue warning about animal traps near Boulevard Lake

By Leith Dunick,

A squirrel caught in a trap near Boulevard Lake has led to a warning to pet owners to be on the lookout for similar devices.

Thunder Bay police say a grey squirrel lost its leg and had to be put down by the city’s animal control department.

Police say there might be more of the traps out there.

“These types of devices can cause injury to animals and small children who may unexpectedly come upon the trap. Please be observant while walking in the area and repost any such devices located to the police,” said police spokeswoman Const. Julie Tilbury in a release issued Tuesday.

Anyone with information on who might have placed the trap is asked to call police at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

There really are some total idiots in this city. I hope when they find out who did this they get more than a silly little fine of a few dollars. This is plain stupidity!

there are some sick people out there. Lucky it was found by a squirrel and not a child /person or a beloved pet being walked. If they ever catch this person I hope their punishment fits the crime

What idiot would put traps out in a place used by so many people and their pets?

The same kind of idiot that strung fishing line across the walkway a while back. Remember?

Tundra Bay is full of them, walking around disguised as normal people.
Be careful, they're out there!

What kind of trap was it? There are people in some groups on Facebook talking about setting traps in that area to catch a stray dog from a reserve. Maybe it was them. There's also talk of leaving food out with tranquilizers in it. No one should be allowed to do that because its unsafe for people and their pets. I hope the police catch the culprit.

Why would a stray dog from the reserve be on the other side of town?
