THUNDER BAY -- A man accused of the murder of a local woman will appear in court again next month.

An 18-year-old suspect charged with second-degree murder in the death of Shannon Ashliegh Marie Hogan, 30, appeared in youth court Thursday morning at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

The suspect, who was 17 at the time of the victim's death, was remanded until June 19.

Despite the suspect’s current age, he cannot be named in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was a minor at the time of the alleged incident.

Hogan was killed following an incident in a laneway behind Lake Street in the early morning of July 16, 2013.

Thunder Bay Police said Hogan was the victim of a violent assault.

Through an extensive investigation, Thunder Bay Police Service investigators arrested the man, who had been in custody on unrelated charges, in December.

He was making an appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice when was arrested on the murder charge.
