THUNDER BAY -- Police have identified the victim of a weekend highway crash.

OPP officers with the Armstrong and Thunder Bay detachments, along with Shuniah Fire Department and ambulance, responded to a single motor-vehicle crash on Highway 527. The crash site was about 80 kilometres north of Highway 11-17.

Police say the driver, Dustin Pascoe, 24, of Marathon, Ont., was pronounced dead at the scene. Pascoe was a town councillor in Marathon.

Police say the victim was driving a pickup truck northbound on Highway 527 when he left the roadway and struck a large rock in the southbound ditch.

Emergency service crews found the truck resting on its passenger side.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
