THUNDER BAY -- City police responded to a serious crash early this morning on one of the city's busiest streets.

A transport truck collided with a small car on Arthur Street at around 6 a.m. Thursday.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service say say the man driving the car was freed by emergency crews and taken to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre with non-life threatening injuries.

The street was closed for about three hours while the rescue and the subsequent police investigation were carried out.

There's no word yet on whether any charges will be laid.

Arthur street is a death trap. I see accidents at its intersections all the time.

Smitty says:
Arthur St is not a death trap. It is a 4-lane, 50 km/h roadway that is perfectly straight. I'm going to guess that the road engineering had nothing to do with the collision.

There was just another head on, right at the corner on Simpson, the little tight corner where the security company is, what's going on people, start paying attention

There are a couple of really big craters on that corner that I steer around every day. I'm sure the craters were involved.

You are right. It's time we eliminated right hand turns on a red light at Edward St. and Arthur and Arthur at James.

You can't get out of places because the traffic is continuous. Although the lights turn red' the traffic at 50 km doesn't stop because of cars turning right.

It would also make it safer for pedestrians at those intersections.

Other cities do it on busy streets.

Turn on green only.

Murphy says:
Arthur St. is not a death trap per say...Accidents are preventable. The streets or intersections are not causing them....It's human error.
I truly hope this individual is ok...it looked horrific!
