Fire officials say the cause of a Winnipeg Avenue fire early Friday was accidental.

And accidental overnight fire caused extensive damage to a Winnipeg Avenue home.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials say they responded to the blaze at about 1 a.m. on Friday, arriving at the single-family bungalow to find thick smoke pouring from the home and flames visible.

Fire crew attacked the first floor to knock down the fire, which had by then extended into the attic.

The fire was brought under control, but not before the home suffered extensive damage.

No one was hurt and the family pet was later retrieved unharmed as well.
