THUNDER BAY -- The 10 Mile Road Race won't have to be detoured after all.

City officials say Water Street was reopened Saturday evening after repairs to the pedestrian overpass were completed. The busy roadway was closed Friday afternoon after a routine inspection discovered a detached weld on one of the glass panels.

Organizers of the 81st running of the city's oldest running event had a contingency plan if repairs were not made on time.

It is expected close to 1,000 runners will be on the course Monday morning.
