Liberal Leader Kathleen Wynne is expected to unveil the party platform Sunday in Thunder Bay.

Sources within the party have told Dougall Media that Wynne will make the announcement at a news conference scheduled for 1 p.m. the Valhalla Inn.

Wynne and NDP Leader Andrea Horwath will take part in Monday’s Northern leaders’ debate, also in Thunder Bay.

NorthernGuy says:
The fact of the matter is that that both the PC's and NDP have announced that they will be cutting the size of the Ontario Public Service and eliminating governmet jobs. Public Administration is the second or third largest employeer in Thunder Bay and a top 2 employeer in the North. Voying PC or NDP is extremely dangerous for the Northern economy.

So what are all these people doing, if anything. Public sector jobs were artificially created by the liberal government when they chased private sector jobs out of the province. Otherwise our unemployment numbers would have climbed through the roof.

But who is paying for these public servants to do who knows what. Who will pay them benefits and pensions for life.

Only Hudak and the PCs are taking the Liberals to task for their theft, scandals, and illegal activities.

If you want to see criminals punished for stealing your tax dollars, then you have to vote team Blue.

Team Orange has condoned it and supported it.

You notice how they haven't said a word about the gas plant billions? Hudak has, but the left wing media makes sure to keep it on the back pages hoping it will go away.

with Hudak, we will see those responsible pay for their deeds.

plus, Hudak is going to be premier. Only question is majority or minority. If Thunder Bay was smart for once, we'd back the winner, not the loser.

I love how every PC supporter forgets all the crap that Harris did, (which the Liberals had to spend a fortune repairing) or the deficit the Federal PCs have created (Canada was very well balanced financially under the Federal Liberals,) but that's ok right? We deserve it.

NO I DONT SUPPORT THE PROVINCIAL LIBERALS, nor the NDP, Sadly we don't have a party worth voting for in this province.
5/22/2014 6:41:02 PM
S Duncan says:

Mike Harris' was the premier of Ontario to his last day of April 14/02.

Do you realize that people that just started kindergarten back then are now getting their driver's licences today?

How long are you going to cry out "Mike Harris!!!" like he was Godzilla or something like that? Do you think that just saying his name makes people run for the hills?

It might if they were big left wing media sponges because when you say Mike Harris, you can never get a real reason why people dislike him, only hyperbole and ridiculous comments that actually don't make any sense.

Next you bring up Federal politics? Do you realize that there is absolutely no correlation between the wonderfully led CPC and the Ontario PC's other than the colour blue?

If you want to talk about budget, lets do that, but muttering "Mike Harris" into your sleeve and other nonsensical left wing/ pro union/ socialist ramblings doesn't substantiate any valid argument here.

PCs are the best bet for Ontario now.

PS, did you know that Mike Harris was a middle school math teacher? He began politics as a school board trustee, and was endorsed by members of the OSSTF?

okay you two experts.

Get back to me on how much each man, woman and child owes for Canada's debt level. $20, 124.00

Read todays paper that outlines that Harper ran the largest deficit in Canadian history.

You see, you would have at least some credibility if you were balanced but your entire posts are simply anti liberal everything. I think you even blamed them for killing the dinosaurs.

But I will try again.

I do not like debt.

Federally or provincially.

I like to pay my bills

But the debt Ottawa racked up flew over T.Bay to the rest of Canada.

The debt Ontario racked up took the express train to Thunder Bay and built buildings, highways, created jobs and saved lives.

I asked on another article which dollars you wanted our MPP's to say no thanks too.

The highway cash
3 billion for Bombardier
Money for health care
New seniors homes

Which ones should they cut to make you folks happy.

I know, its not possible to make you two economic experts happy.
5/22/2014 4:42:37 PM
S Duncan says:
The federal government has a balanced budget and will have control of Canada's debt problem by 2015.

The reason we have such a big deficit is because the liberals and ndp demanded a tremendous stimulus package for Canada or they would form a coalition government that would have cost us what they wanted, plus the added expenses and headaches of another election.

The Conservatives agreed. That's where our debt comes from. You are of course once again wrong about that money flying over Thunder Bay.

Remember that?

For someone who pretends not to like debt, you sure have no trouble voting to increase it. Not only that, you tell us all how wonderful these liberals are.

They have wasted more money than we can imagine. They have scandal after scandal. They gave us Orange, smart meters, HST on gas, eco fees and countless other nonsense.

Its your position that has no balance.
5/22/2014 6:26:06 PM
Allan J. says:
some great quotes in that article about the proposed $60 million events centre and how Harper doesn't support it, especially if it will house a professional hockey team because he says that's the responsibility of the private sector, not the government.

so now the price is already over $100 million. what happened? and why is the local officials still pursuing federal funding and wasting our resources on studys and consultants when they've already been told this project does not meet the criteria?
5/23/2014 7:28:48 AM
Allan J. says:
What highway "cash"? There is no cash, only promissory notes of it, of course those come with fees and costs like interest payments.

$3 billion for Bombardier? where did that money come from? Are we in the business of taking money from citizens of Ontario and handing it over to large corporations to artificially float their boats? Isnt that cronyism? Also, is it the job of government to take our money and spend it on subway cars that only 3% of the population will ever use? Personally I want to use my hard earned money for my own transportation needs, not those in Toronto, but hey, that's just me I guess?

Money for health care? What money? where did this money come from? I was at the hospital the other day and its done nothing but rapidly decline in quality of health care in Thunder Bay.

New seniors homes? are those for the seniors that are lining the halls at the hospital because there is no long term care for any of them?

Liberals dropped the ball ages ago. Time for them to go!

Maybe we could cut this part of health care. Just a thought lori.

ON Libs tripled health care costs, for management, not patient care

Is she running on the platform of literally running in her tv adds?
5/22/2014 12:33:25 PM
yqtyqt says:
No she's running on the platform that she'll bankrupt the province during her next term as premier if she's re-elected. Her running thing looks like she's trying to stay one step ahead of the collection agencies.

I'm considering posting the provincial debt clock every day until the election is held. It will tell voters daily what more we owe each day after work on behalf of the Lieberals and their 1.2 million (and growing) employees.

What it won't show is the cost of future promises and the future unfunded cost of provincial employee benefits.

When Wynne comes to town, I hope that she's forced to identify where exactly the province will come up with the money to fund her promises. Or just admit that she's borrowing more money to be repaid by our children/grandchildren.
5/22/2014 1:14:12 PM
yqtyqt says:
Today, the Ontario debt clock says we owe 19,544 each, per man, woman and child. A family of four owes the province of Ontario close to $80,000.

This doesn't include the cost of the current election promises or the cost of future unfunded employee pensions and benefits.
5/22/2014 2:33:22 PM
S Duncan says:
and this number is growing every single day the Liberals remain in power.

How anybody of sound mind can vote for them is beyond me. The NDP are just touting more spending as well.

The only viable option besides bankruptcy court is the Ontario PC party, because the spending orgy is over Thunder Bay.

Kiss all your welfare projects goodbye.
5/22/2014 4:43:20 PM
yqtyqt says:
Todays debt clock says we owe 19,547 each per man woman and child. For a family of four, this adds $12 a day or over $4,000 a year.

Its little wonder we can't save for pensions. Any savings we can achieve after taxes, increasing hydro costs will be consumed by the provincial government debt.

At this stage, I don't care who else you vote for. But we can't afford to keep voting for the same old Liberal spend, tax and borrow gang.
5/23/2014 1:18:08 PM
tiredofit says:
Ok, so now you claim there are 1.2 million Provincial Employees? Hudak say's there's 600,000. Where do you get your numbers? In another post you claimed he was cutting 300,000 jobs.

Ontario has the lowest unemployment rate of all provinces with the exception of Alberta (Based on a news report on CBC News last night). Hate to break it to you, but the debt clock will continue to climb every minute of everyday no matter who's in power, it always has and always will.

The parties all have creative bookkeepers who simply move numbers from one column to another. We cut a 100 jobs (yeah!) but we've increased the cost of privatization by 120 job costs.

A single dervice, such as having a third party Technician come on site to a Gov. office will go through a minimum of 5 hands before it's done and all 5 will add their markup to it (I know first hand as I've been on that side). The final tech will charge $150.00 for the job, but the government will be billed $500+ on average for the work.
5/23/2014 9:22:05 AM
yqtyqt says:
I'll slow this down for you. Grab a pencil.

Not long ago there were 900,000 civil servants. McGuinty & Wynne added another 300,000. There are now 1.2 millionm civil servants. Look it up yourself. That number is published. Hudak wants to cut 100,000 civil servants. That's 1/3 of the number that the Liberals created. Thats only roughly 8% of the govt employees.

Get off your chair and go Toronto and watch the people come and go out of the government offices. I spent some time working there. I have no idea what most of these people are doing.

I will agree with you that the political parties have their own spindoctors creating hype about what this will mean. he Liberals will tell you that queens park will come to a standstill if we lay off govt workers. I hardly think so.

Only one party wants to cut the size of bureaucracy, unless you know something that we haven't heard.

Every company and individual has had to tighten their belts at one time or another. its time the liberals learned
