THUNDER BAY -- Firefighting resources are being shipped from Ontario to Northern Saskatchewan.

The resource transfer is a response to Ontario’s slower-than-typical start to the forest fire season. Meanwhile, Northern Saskatchewan has its hands full with the early days of their forest fire season.

Five new fires were reported in the Northwest region of Ontario during the weekend. All five of those fires have already been declared out, reports the Ministry of Natural Resources.

There have been a total of 22 fires in this region since the season officially began April 1.
