THUNDER BAY – A possible resolution might be on the horizon in a fraud case involving the former Christmas Cheer Fund chair.

Linda Gambee had a court appearance at the Thunder Bay Courthouse Tuesday. Her lawyer, Gil Labine, told the court there have been discussions around resolving the case.

Gambee was charged in February with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust after Thunder Bay Police Service investigators allege she defrauded the charitable organization of $22,000.

Police received a complaint in January from the Christmas Cheer Fund, which was then investigated by the Economic Crimes Unit.

Gambee resigned as chair of the Christmas Cheer Fund, a position she had held for six years, last fall. The resignation came after a high-profile dispute with the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition board of directors.

She had been ousted from the CLE board allegedly for her public opposition to an open bar policy.

Joleene Kemp replaced Gambee as chair of the charitable organization.

Gambee’s next court date is scheduled for July 29.

Charges against the accused have not been tested  in court.
