THUNDER BAY -- City police are looking for the man who was pointing a gun at traffic near May Street Wednesday.
In a news release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service Thursday, police say two plain clothed officers were driving south on May Street Wednesday evening, approaching George Street, when they spotted a man on a sidewalk pointing a handgun at vehicles travelling along the street.
The officers approached the area in an unmarked police vehicle.
Officers then moved their vehicle out of the line of danger and began to approach the area on foot.
Police say the suspect, along with three others he was standing with, were gone when officers arrived.
Police believed the suspect had gone into a nearby building. Officers searched the building for the suspect and weapons.
Police did not find a suspect, but they did seize a replica BB handgun and a crossbow from an apartment on the first floor of the building.
An intoxicated 33-year-old man was inside the apartment, who was then arrested for breaching probation terms that prohibited him from drinking.
Police are now trying to identify the man who was pointing the gun at traffic.
The suspect is described as an Aboriginal man, standing five-feet-eight-inches tall with an average build. He wore a multicoloured baseball cap, black tanktop and dark-coloured pants at the time of the incident.
