NIPIGON, Ont.  -- Highway 17 has been closed at Jackfish River Bridge.

The Ministry of Transportation announced the closure of the bridge, which is under construction Tuesday.

The bridge is located on Highway 17 about 13 kilometres east of Nipigon.

Motorists can use Highway 11 and Highway 631 as alternate routes between Nipigon and White River. The duration of the closure is unknown at this time.

A ministry news release states that the closure is needed to ensure the safety of road users and construction workers while the bridge is being repaired.

For the latest information on highway closures, the public can call 511 or check online at www.ontario.ca/511
