NIPIGON, Ont. — A section of Highway 17 remains closed but could be opened by Thursday, according to Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.

The highway was completely closed at the Jackfish River Bridge Tuesday, about 13 kilometres east of Nipigon, due to emergency bridge repairs.

The MTO originally had no estimates regarding when the highway would be re-opened, but on Wednesday sent out a media update indicating the construction would be complete by Thursday.

The re-opening of the highway would be subject to an engineering review.

Motorists are encouraged to use Highway 11 and Highway 631 as alternate routes between Nipigon and White River during this closure.

For the latest information on highway closures, the public can call 511, or visit online at www.ontario.ca/511.
