SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. -- A nap near a trail in Sioux Lookout almost led to a man becoming a bear’s evening snack.
Officials with the OPP say the 29-year-old Muskrat Dam man was snoozing next to a trail on Seventh Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when he was awoken by a bear biting his hand.
The bear wasn’t looking for a nibble, but instead attempted to drag the man into a wooded area. But the bear was scared off by another community member who struck the mammal with a rock.
The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the hospital and has since been released.
The OPP is now reminding the public to take precautions about attracting bears a while outdoors and not to approach or attempt to interact with the animals.
More information can be found online at the Ministry of Natural Resources website.
