Shipyard files for bankruptcy protection

Streak of Green – Hair SalonHey Stylists! It’s time to go green! Looking for a F/T stylist to join our team in a very busy organic, eco friendly full service

THUNDER BAY -- TBT News has learned that the Thunder Bay Shipyard, which was operating under the name of Lakehead Marine Industria, has filed for bankruptcy protection.

Company officials were unable to comment on the situation.

Officials with Ernst and Young, which is handling the bankruptcy proceeding, could not be reached for comment.

But the facility has struggled for several years. While it was still handling some marine repair contracts, much of its attention in recent years was directed at trying to generate outside business for its machine shop.

The workforce at the shipyard, which once numbered in the hundreds, had dropped to just 80 employees.

This is truly sad to see, while they only currently employee 80 as the story states, it's 80 good paying jobs that may be lost now. Thus probably forcing them to head west for the real paying jobs.

What's another 80 jobs. Wynne will look after everyone. Few more bike lanes and a couple wind mills and life will be just perfect until the bills come in.
