THUNDER BAY -- City police say three people have been arrested in connection with a Cumming Street assault that sent four to hospital.
Thunder Bay Police Service officials on Friday released an updated statement clarifying that contrary to earlier reports, none of the individuals were stabbed.
Instead, police said the incident began when two men were reportedly bothering another man inside an apartment.
A 31-year-old man attempted to intervene but was then struck with a beer bottle and assaulted by the two men. That prompted a 43-year-old female to attempt to step in, which led to her being assaulted.
Both the man and woman who were assaulted were sent to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and have since been released. The man who was inside the apartment and bothered by the two men was uninjured.
The two men, a 21-year-old and one 25-year-old, were arrested once they were released from hospital. They have each been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm.
Both have been remanded to the Thunder Bay District Jail with court appearances scheduled for July 21.
A 46-year-old woman was also arrested at the scene and has been charged with obstructing a police officer. She has been released with a court date of Aug 12.
Police say the individuals are all known to each other and alcohol was a factor.
