THUNDER BAY - Habitat for Humanity has taken a $138,300 Trillium Foundation grant and used it to purchase a pair of pick-up trucks and a forklift for use at their newly renovated ReStore showroom.

Diane Mitchell said the Nissan Titan trucks will allow the organization to increase its number of salvages and deliver more products to customers.

“We added 6,000 new square feet on to the ReStore, which means more materials coming in. So we have to have vehicles to be able to help us with those salvages and to help us get the material in and out of the store,” said Mitchell, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay’s president.

Store manager Tyson Neil said the money will help boost productivity and revenue.

“This profitable growth will have an extremely positive effect on Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay, as the ReStore is the organization’s single largest source of funding,” he said.

Since 1994, Habitat for Humanity has built 27 homes in Thunder Bay, providing residences for 79 children.

As an organization, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay strives to mobilize the community and move families forward toward affordable homeownership.

Today’s contributions represent the community coming together to build a better future for families to thrive in a safer and healthier environment. I couldn’t think of a better way to kick off our 2014 construction season.”

This is a fantastic organization and it's nice to see the Trillium Foundation being put to good use.

This is the first place I'll check for items before I head to Home Depot or another local business for supplies. You can save a lot of money!
