THUNDER BAY -- Noise complaints brought to city council against a new trampoline park comes as a surprise to the facility’s owner.

Dustin Wilson, manager of the Aerosports Trampoline Parks,  said his business did receive complaints from neighbours when it first opened a year ago, but that was before it was renovated into the facility it is today.

Despite making adjustments, Northern and Southern Avenue residents presented a petition Monday night with 20 signatures stating the sound from the Sports Dome was too loud.

Wilson said he’s done everything he could to keep the noise down, including spending $10,000 on a new sound system to lower sound and bass levels. He’s even changed the park’s hours of operation.

Originally open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, The trampoline parks now shut its doors at 11 p.m.

Robert Rickards, who presented the petition to council, said he could hear bass as early as 8 a.m.

Wilson said this claim seems exaggerated, as the park doesn’t open until 10.

“I understand their frustration, and we’ve tried to do everything we could to try to make them a little happier,” he said. “Unfortunately, when people get upset I think they’re going to still complain.”

The reduced hours have meant a loss for the business, but Wilson said he’s willing to take a little bit of that cut if it means keeping neighbours happy.

The the park’s priority, however, is giving kids and teens a safe environment to jump around and be healthy.

“We’ve done everything that we could to keep the sound down, but we are trying to offer a healthy, fun environment for kids to get off the streets and listen to music and jump around,” Wilson said.
