THUNDER BAY -- A fourth person has been charged in connection with the city’s fifth homicide case of 2014.
Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service on Thursday confirmed that Kevin Wabason, 38, of Thunder Bay had been arrested Wednesday on George Street without incident. Police charged Wabason with second-degree murder in connection with the discovery of a burned body near the Harbour Expressway and Field Street.
Wabason remains in custody and is expected to appear in court on August 1. He joins three others, two men and a woman, who are also charged with second-degree murder in connection with the same case.
Police also confirmed the victim as Lloyd Oskineegish, 44, of Wunnumin Lake.
Oskineegish’s body was discovered Friday, July 18. Police held the area as a potential crime scene throughout the weekend, only to later reveal the case was a homicide investigation after the results of a post-mortem examination.
Keith Mishenene, 21, Felton Sakanee, 26 and Larissa Shingabis, 20, face charges of second-degree murder.
Before the fourth arrest, Thunder Bay Police Service Det. Sgt. Don Lewis told media that all three suspects arrested at that time were known to the victim.
While some intoxicants may have played a role, the investigation is ongoing and those facts are still being collected.
In a release issued earlier this week by police, Thunder Bay Police Service Chief J.P. Levesque said law enforcement officials are aware the area where the body was discovered is a beacon for unwanted and violent activities and stressed the need to make it less attractive to these type of activities.
In 2012, the body of Adam Yellowhead was found in the area.
Joseph Wesley was convicted of manslaughter and received an eight-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to the charge.
