THUNDER BAY -- One of two suspects arrested after a violent Canada Day assault, which later turned into a homicide investigation, will appear in court Thursday.

Becky Mamakwa, 21, appeared via video in bail court Wednesday afternoon where she was remanded until Thursday when she will appear in person at the Thunder Bay Courthouse.

Mamakwa and Carl Spencer Rae, 31, were both charged with aggravated assault in the alleged robbery and assault of 52-year-old Christopher Adams on July 1 outside of city hall on the corner of Donald and May Streets.

The homicide investigation began after Adams died at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre July 8.

There is no word yet from police on whether the charges will be changed from aggravated assault or whether two other men, considered by investigators to be persons of interest in this case, are still being sought by police.

None of the charges against the accused have been proven in court.

Rae’s next court date is Aug. 22.
