Henry Wojak adds name to mayor’s race

By tbnewswatch.com

THUNDER BAY -- A fourth candidate has officially stepped forward in the race for mayor in this city.

Henry Wojak, who announced his intentions to run earlier this year and ran in the Neebing Ward in 2010, has put his name on the ballot.

Wojak was at City Hall Thursday  getting all the paperwork in place for the October election.  The longtime city hall critic currently has a trespass notice that keeps him from entering city hall, due to several incidents with city staff and council members.

Wojak was given a one-day reprieve on Thursday in order to file his nomination papers.

He told TBT News that his goals if elected are to stop spikes in taxes and give citizens of Thunder Bay a bigger say in council chambers.

Even Wojak would be better than Hobb's.

I will happily vote for Mr. Wojak. He has brought up many good points and has a genuine concern for this city.

It appears to me he cares which is far more than I can say about the other mayoral candidates.

What choices do you have? Hobbs did nothing what he said he was going to do. Boshcoff didn't do a hell of a lot during his time in the seat either. You never know what Hank may do for the city and your tax dollars. He may be the guy that should have been listened to all along. Sure he may have had a trespass order against him because council was afraid of having to deal with someone who had a legitimate cause. The councils solution was to get the order.
Like they say, "Don't judge a book by it's cover", and if you weren't there to see it and here it don't make judgement.
Good luck to those newbies who have put their names on the list. None of the current council deserve another round.

I'm for any candidate who holds to a promise to cut wasteful spending. Henry has been very consistent on this issue although past tactics have been controversial and caused him to be marginalized by City Hall. Perhaps what is needed is a place on the TBnewswatch web site for a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" where readers can state their point on waste. My contribution would be a thumbs down to the recent Saturday where the pumper truck came to front of the house and two firemen arrived at the front door armed with a smoke detector on a mission to dispense advice on the need to have them. We have several, thank you - and why not send summer students around doing this working for appropriate wages?

You write about wasteful spending yet here you go advocating just that with your suggestion about hiring summer students to go door to door educating the public about smoke detectors.

Fire personal wages are a sunk cost, we pay them to be available and ready 24/7. You can complain about this all you want but it is what it is.
Sending them out to educate people about fire safety instead of having them sit around waiting for something to happen is utilizing staff in community involvement and public relations.

Henry Wojak has been quoted as saying that he'd like to bring integrity backbtobcity hall....

If thats the case than why is he running for mayor? He has none to offer himself

I am beyond thrilled about this development.

Not because I am backing Henry Wojak in any way shape or form, nor do I believe he has any realistic chance of winning, but due to the fact that we will now have irrefutable evidence of whether or not Henry "Mayor in Waiting" Wojak truly has been speaking for the majority of people in this city or not.

Henry, will you continue to claim you speak for the majority if you do not win this election?

I can only pray that we do not hear the usual banter that this was some sort of left wing media, communist plot to prevent Henry from winning if he does in fact lose; I will not hold my breath on that one.

I am anxiously awaiting the data from this election. I cannot wait!

Eastender says:
Mr. Wojak has been vilified merely for his passion and brusque manners, when addressing a council indifferent to some of his concerns. Concerns that should have been addressed, not ignored. This present council would not entertain any ideas that conflicted with their general consensus, they stuck together like burrs on a dogs leg. That is not to say that Mr Wojaks ideas are without merit, nor that his passion should discredit him from being a worthy candidate. The most impotant quality of any politician should be their desire to have the democratic
process carried out, above their personal wishes to build monuments to their egos. I think Mr. Wojak may have at least a qualifying amount of these requirements, and I certainly hope that those who go to the polls are not fooled by the nagative image that Mr. Wojak has so undeservedly been saddled with.

Enquirer says:
Considering that a trespass notice has been issued to Henry, there had to be lawful merit for the order to be issued. The issue at hand was "due to abusive and constant emails according to city administration" (http://www.tbnewswatch.com/news/325812/Campaign-conundrum).

If in fact Henry believes what he was writing was in the spirit of good citizenship, perhaps he can publish all of these emails online for the community to assess whether or not they were abusive?

I mean, "Eastender", that seems to be a hallmark of most of your arguments, that there isn't enough transparency at city hall. How about our "mayor in waiting" gets his election off on the right foot by publishing all of these communications (with time stamps) that city hall supposedly mistook for abusive? I mean, you're all about letting the people decide according to your own posts, so you should obviously agree with me here! Unless of course you just use that argument when it suits you? Surely that can't be it!
8/3/2014 3:06:06 AM
Eastender says:
Before you ask Henry for his transcripts, maybe you should ask Hobbs, and Commisso for their transcripts of all tne private meetings that were held, and who was in attendance at these meetings. Henry is not Mr. Polite, but I believe his heart is in the right place. Irreverent honesty trumps polite misrepresentation.
8/3/2014 12:25:32 PM
Enquirer says:
Ah, that's the stuff again! When you do not have an adequate response you turn the conversation to a completely unrelated topic.

Tell me, what does Hobbs and Commisso have to do with Henry Wojak's harassment/trespassing? Or my website data proving your statement wrong for that matter? I have the answer: nothing.

Jeez, you sound like you are running scared from the question, much similar to someone else around here (ha).

Let me give you a touch of that out-of-touch-from-reality you seem to have: THERE YOU HAVE IT FOLKS!!!111

Enquirer says:
(CONTINUED): Eastender claims to be about the people but isn't at all!!!! What does he have to hide?!!? Why is he supporting Wojak and his reign of terror?!!? Do you want someone like this speaking for our online community?!?!!?!?!?! I know I wouldn't!!!1111

See how idiotic that sounds?

How about you admit to being hypocritical? When the argument suits you, you are all about having the cards out on the table, when it doesn't, you run scared.

Henry Wojak could and very well be the much desperately needed change in leadership and actions that this broken city so badly and sadly requires...

Hank is a good 1st time alternative to the other dismal choices in this years mayoral race.

Just look at the poor and apathetic voter turn-outs of past elections.

I have no problem in voting for Hank and allowing him a chance to turn things around for the better of all our citizens and city, at least he has been trying.

Best of luck to you Hank !!

Mr Wojak is very concerned about out tax dollars and the alarming rate they are increasing as pointed out by the Chamber of Commerce. The city tries to disclaim what the Chamber of Commerce has stated as well as anyone else who gets in their way.

He is a viable alternative to Hobbs and Boshcoff, and I will probably vote for him for that reason alone. Sorry but it's true.

I do not like the other two candidates, one doesn't work and one is just a career politician.

In order to be a good politician, you gotta ruffle a few feathers. It looks like Henry is well on his way. Honesty and integrity are qualities most desireable in politicians, above experience, qualifications, and priviledge. Liars and those with hidden agendas need not apply.

If Henry wins he can become the City's Communications Department also cause he makes great Power Points.

Also if he has a trespass notice against him would he have to Skype in to council? Maybe he can broadcast from Ray Smith's basement.

I don't about Wojak as mayor, but I tell ya the status Que and the click needs to be gone. The amount of people on the sunshine list working for city need a reduction. Roads are the worst I have ever seen. People doing nothing all day driving around in city trucks on garbage detail on a OT Sunday no less , are you kidding me. Can't wait till Monday to do it.
8/1/2014 2:56:36 AM
fastball says:
The local Sunshine List is comprised mostly of firemen and policemen. They're on the list because it's cheaper for the city to pay out overtime than it is to hire more staff to fill all the hours that need coverage.
As for the roads - the city's laid out almost 80M dollars in road work in the past 2 years, and is on the books for almost 30M more in 2015. That's not an insignificant amount of money.
Finally, as for garbage pickup on Sunday - honestly, I don't think so.

Isn't it kind of awkward to have a trespass notice against you in the very place in which you wish to work? Maybe he should have thought about that before dealing with people in the manner which led to the trespass notice. I'm not sure if this is a guy I want to represent the city.
