THUNDER BAY -- Police are looking for a man who was armed with a pipe when he robbed a woman on the city’s south side Saturday morning.

Thunder Bay Police Service officials say the 23-year-old woman was unloading her car just before 3 a.m. outside her Victoria Avenue home when she was approached by a man. The man had exited a truck parked on Victoria Avenue, and asked the woman if she needed any help.

The woman declined the man’s offer and he left.

But police say the same man returned a few moments later with a pipe and demanded the woman’s purse.

The man was able to grab the woman’s purse and fled the area on foot. The woman was unharmed during the robbery.

Police say the truck the man drove was reported stolen on Aug. 1 between 8 and 8:30 p.m. from a home in the 200 block of North Norah Street.

Police say the suspect is described as a Caucasian standing about five-feet-seven-inches tall. He is about 25-years-old and has short brush cut hair or is balding.

He wore a black baseball cap and a black hoodie at the time of the robbery.

Police are asking for anyone with information about either of these incidents to contact the police at 684-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. A web tip may also be left at www.tipsubmit.com
