Landry to challenge Harding in Shuniah reeve race

By Leith Dunick,

Shuniah Reeve Maria Harding will have company on the Oct. 27 municipal ballot.

Four-year council veteran Wendy Landry said Thursday it’s time for new blood, announcing her candidacy for the Northwestern Ontario community’s top elected position.

“I bring a wealth of successful business experience along with passion for community development,” Landry said in a campaign release.

“I believe the people of Shuniah deserve a boost of positive, new energy and more diverse experience to contribute to economic development and to bring this unique community together. I have a proven track record, I am a community builder.”

Landry spent 20 years in corrections and taught at Confederation College. She’s now the manager of municipal and Aboriginal affairs at Union Gas.

Harding has held the position of reeve for the past 26 years.

She defeated Peter Tighe in 2010, capturing 56.7 per cent of the vote.

This article only gives a glimpse into the many things that she has done and any one that knows Wendy Landry knows she is passionate about her community. She raised funds for our youth centre, volunteers for many charities, has a great working knowledge of business and what it takes to succeed in business. Wendy will bring a fresh and positive outlook to Shuniah when she is elected Reeve in Shuniah.
Residents of Shuniah need to get out and vote!

Great! Now lets see some competition in the Red River Ward!!!
This is just a paycheck for Mr. McKinnin. If you need help with anything in this ward, you will only get a "mailbox is full" message and then you have to go to an at large councillor. Maybe that is all we should have is fewer councilors and all at large, that way they are working for the entire city as they are supposed to anyway.
Mr. Foulds seems to be the only one I would re-elect as he seems very involved in his area as well as interest in the entire city. Maybe he should run for mayor.
Boshcoff is loving the media these days, but if everyone remembers correctly that is about all he did when he was mayor. His contributions were less than helpful - our city is still suffering the effects of his stupidity.

This is a disaster – but I’ll keep my negative comments to myself… however, I will say new blood is not always good.

Maria Harding has provided many years of stable, well-thought out, experienced and positive advice. She has strong roots to her community and Thunder Bay. Shuniah has done very well under her leadership and hopefully will continue to do so for many years. People, vote with your head – this isn’t a popularity contest.

Vote for Maria Harding

Just so we are clear:

There is no "Business experience in this resume"

25 years in corrections, Confederation College & Union Gas which is a provincial regulated monopoly delivering a product at a regulated price. That is not real world business.
