THUNDER BAY -- The city’s police force is now working on its seventh homicide case of 2014.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police Service on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that a scene of a suspicious death at 135 Machar Avenue had been officially declared a homicide investigation.

Police officers found the body of an adult man in the home around 10:45 p.m. Sunday. On Tuesday police confirmed they had formally charged a man and woman, both residents of the same home, in connection with a homicide investigation.

Chauncy Lyle Grover and Alyssa Lynn Jourdain, both 44, have each been charged with second-degree murder.

Thunder Bay Police Service executive officer Chris Adams said the suspects are involved in a common-law relationship and are believed to be the lone two residents of the home. They were charged by the criminal investigation branch Monday night.

A post mortem examination of the victim was conducted Tuesday morning in Thunder Bay.

Even with the post-mortem completed and charges laid, investigators are still faced with one significant question.

“The victim’s identity is still to be determined. That’s still being worked on as part of the follow-up from the post-mortem examination,” Adams said.

Adams would not comment on any specifics details of the case, such as cause or time of the death. He also refused to answer how police initially became aware of the scene.

The suspects are expected to appear in court Sept. 16.

None of the charges against the two suspects have been proven in court.
