Boshcoff says public wants CLE bar closed

Mayoral hopeful Ken Boshcoff says he thinks the public is only going to be happy if and when the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition board of directors shuts down its bar for good.

Mayoral hopeful Ken Boshcoff says he thinks the public is only going to be happy if and when the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition board of directors shuts down its bar for good.

Boshcoff, who represents city council on the CLE board, issued a release on Tuesday ahead of a scheduled board meeting, called it a response to public concern, rather than a reaction to what he termed an organized character assassination of the board and its members.

“The public will only be satisfied with a closure,” Boshcoff said.

“Those members of the CLE who have perpetrated the myths that remain unproven have truly done a disservice to the many hundreds of caring volunteers. Nonetheless, we must restore the community image of the CLE.”

Boshcoff said in the release that earlier this year he had suggested strong measures that included only issuing keys to the small boardroom for business meeting purposes only.

He expressed disappointment the idea was not acted upon.

Boshcoff said a motion to revise the bar policy is expected to be raised at Tuesday night’s meeting, which he was unable to attend.
