THUNDER BAY -- Vandals have torn down four trees lining St. Paul Street in the city’s north core.
Waterfront District Business Improvement Area spokesman Jim Comuzzi called the weekend act senseless.
Comuzzi on Wednesday said he tours the downtown area every weekend to see how it held up, and usually finds nothing worse than broken bottles or garbage.
This time things were a little different.
“Unfortunately somebody’s taken down our trees on St. Paul Street. As you’re well aware in the past couple of years the City of Thunder Bay was kind enough to regenerate our street and really brought new life to our short little street,” Comuzzi said.
“We’ve got new shops in the area and it’s kind of disappointing to see some people late night or early morning are careless enough to take away our beauty.”
He added it’s unlikely it was done by hand.
“You’d have to get three or four people in order to pull down a tree with a three- or four-inch stump at the base. A car would do an easier job.”
Comuzzi said the BIA plans to replace the trees, and estimated it will cost between $700 and $900 apiece.”
