This Labour Day means a little more for striking workers in Thunder Bay.

On the picket line Monday outside of Bombardier Unifor Local 1075 president Dominic Pasqualino, who represents around 900 striking workers, said the day hits home this year.

"I think once it's hitting your own backyard you understand the issues a lot more," he said.

With shorter hours and safer conditions, Pasqualino said organized labour has always fought to make things better for the next generation. But this generations seems to be targeted by companies.

"I think this might be the first generation that might have a harder time than their forefathers had," Pasqualino said.

It's something that needs to continue. And with the help of other unions, families of striking workers will be able to use nearly $5,000 in donated supplies as kids head back to school Tuesday.

There could also be an end to the strike in sight as Bombardier and Unifor head back to the bargaining table Tuesday. Pasqualino said he looks forward to some good conversation.

"And maybe ending this as soon as possible," he said.
